Margaret leaned forward and looked into the jewelry case. “It’s so sweet of him to support his cousin’s business by bringing us here.”

“It’s not his cousin, Mom.”

“What do you mean?”

“Just about every tour I’ve done in the Caribbean, the tour guide stops at his cousin’s store.” Olivia shivered from the air-conditioned air blowing down on her. “He probably gets a kickback from everything we buy in the store.”

“I never would have thought of that.” Margaret leaned over the jewelry case. “So many pretty pieces.”

“Can I help you ladies?” A clerk unlocked the jewelry case’s door and pulled out the black velvet tray of rings. “Is there something you would like to see?”

“You have such pretty things.” Margaret smiled at the clerk and pointed at a ring. “I just love that one.”

Olivia pulled her mom aside and said in a low voice. “Mom, don’t show how much you like it. You’ll ruin any chance of negotiating.”

“Negotiating?” Margaret blinked. “I just said it was pretty.”

The clerk lifted the ring off of the tray. “Let me put it on you, ma’am. So you can see how beautiful you will look with it on.”

“Oh no. I’m not buying it. Just looking. But thank you.”

“Aw. It doesn’t cost to look, ma’am.” The clerk slid the ring onto Margaret’s finger.

Margaret held her hand up and moved it under the lights. “Oh. It is lovely. How much is it?”

The clerk answered.

Margaret pulled the ring off of her finger. “Ooh! Goodness.” She handed it back to the clerk.

“I can speak with my manager. I am sure we can make you a very good deal. You seem like a nice lady.”

“Thank you.” Margaret backed away from the case. “But no matter the discount, that is out of my budget.”

Tristan tapped Olivia on the shoulder. His eyes darted around the shop. “Hey. Any chance you can help me pick something out before Hayley comes back from the restroom.”

Margaret patted Olivia on the shoulder. “You go help Tristan, dear. I’m going to go sit on a bench outside.”

Olivia nodded. “Of course. Any idea what you are looking for?”

Tristan’s eyes darted towards the bathroom entrance. He gestured for Olivia to follow him. “Over here. I was looking at these necklaces.”

Olivia followed Tristan over to the case.

“Excuse me.” Tristan put his hand on Alex’s shoulder and scooted past him and Lexi.

Alex straightened up and leaned on the case they were looking in so Tristan could pass.

Olivia slid against the case behind Alex and Lexi to avoid bumping into them. “Sorry. It’s tight in here.”

“No, problem.” Alex picked up his shopping bag. “Ready, Lex?”

“There are so many. I don’t know what Hayley would like.” Tristan leaned over and looked at the necklaces. “Any ideas?”

“What about that little turtle?” Olivia pointed to a small charm. “She loves sea turtles and it would be a reminder of today.”

“Brilliant. Thanks, Olivia.”

“My pleasure. She’ll love it.”

Tristan grinned as he pulled out his credit card and handed it to the clerk. “Olivia, can you get the bag so she doesn’t know I bought anything?”

“I’d be happy, too.
